Filson 1897: the American heritage workwear and outerwear

Everything started with the Great Klondike Gold Rush in 1897, with the production of goods to outfit the thousands of fortune hunters who were stampeding into Seattle, headed north. In that era, clothing wasn't a matter of choice, but of survival: Filson manufactured for them garments specially designed for the frigid North and since then the brand became synonymous with reliability, quality and durability. We asked Alex Carleton, creative director of the American brand based in Seattle, to tell us the secret recipe of products that are able to last for generations. The answer has to do with consistency and reverence for history, a quality that WP and Filson share since 1986.

"The way I would define Filson today is an American heritage brand that delivers some of the best quality in terms of product and material that you can find anywhere in the world. Anything that we produce today has to have the same level of integrity as the icons that we have in our archives." Alex Carleton

"What's interesting about the WP Archives is that you can do a lot of your market research in one spot. The collections are really dynamic, there is everything from vintage brands to more current brands, multiple seasons. So you're really able to do a lot of research here and then use it, draw upon it to create and define where you're going in the future." Alex Carleton
